Code of Ethics

Breeding

As a responsible breeder, I adhere to a strict code of ethics. It is my commitment to always prioritize the betterment of my bloodline when planning each breeding. This means taking into account the historical breed type and striving to maintain and improve upon it with each generation. I understand the importance of preserving the unique characteristics and traits of the breed, and I take great care to ensure that my breeding practices are in line with these principles. By upholding these ethical standards, I aim to contribute to the overall health, temperament, and conformation of the breed, while also promoting responsible ownership and breeding within the community.

As a responsible breeder, I adhere to a strict code of ethics when selecting stud dogs and brood bitches. I carefully consider conformation, temperament, and working instinct and ability, taking into account the breed standard and principles of genetics. I only breed dogs that are physically and mentally mature and free of serious defects. I do not breed dogs with vicious or shy temperaments, monorchids, cryptorchids, or those with serious defects outlined in their breed standards. Additionally, I encourage or require the buyers of pet quality puppies to spay or neuter them. It is important to me to maintain the highest standards in breeding and ensure the health and well-being of the dogs.

Health

As a responsible breeder, I take pride in adhering to a strict code of ethics. I prioritize the health and well-being of my dogs, ensuring that they receive the highest standards of care. When it comes to selling puppies, I guarantee that they are in good health at the time of sale. It is my commitment to provide a loving and nurturing environment for all of my animals, and to ensure that they are placed in homes where they will continue to receive the same level of care and attention. I believe in the importance of responsible breeding practices and strive to set an example within the community.

Selling

As a responsible breeder, I adhere to a strict code of ethics. I am very discerning when it comes to selling my puppies and I am concerned about the type of environments they are placed in. I ensure that all registration papers are transferred at the time of purchase agreement, and I provide the buyer with inoculation and parasite control records as well as a health guarantee. My priority is the well-being and proper placement of my puppies, and I take these responsibilities very seriously.

Advertising

As a responsible breeder, I adhere to a strict code of ethics in all aspects of my work. When advertising dogs and puppies, I ensure that the information provided is both factual and honest, without any misleading implications. I also make it a point to avoid hyping up the breeding potential of any dog or puppy to potential buyers. Breeding purebred dogs is a serious responsibility that I take very seriously, and I am committed to upholding the highest standards in this regard. It is important to me that all my actions as a breeder reflect integrity and transparency, and I will always prioritize the well-being and welfare of the animals in my care.

Exhibiting

As a responsible breeder, I adhere to a strict code of ethics in my practices. I recognize that exhibiting dogs is a sport, and I am committed to demonstrating good sportsmanship at all times. This means refraining from unnecessary criticism of other people's dogs and instead focusing on the positive aspects. I also take it upon myself to educate the general public and support novice breeders, as a matter of ethics. It is important to me to promote a respectful and supportive community within the dog breeding and exhibiting world.

Akbash Dogs International expects its breeders to stand behind the pups they produce and support the buyers they sell to. Breeders must abide by the ADI code of ethics, and maintain high standards as set out in the ADI breeding and registration policies. If problems should arise between a breeder and buyer, the ADI board is prepared to intervene. There have been remarkably few complaints about our breeders in the past decade. Most of the complaints have been about unrealistic expectations or unclear verbal agreements. In other words, unclear communication. ADI strongly suggests written agreements and guarantees.
